The Mission

Congratulations! You’ve been selected to attend the esteemed Bogthistle Academy of Magic and Sorcery for your untapped magical abilities. All that stands between you and term time is finding out to which house you truly belong.

Your guide is Rychard Grahame, Richie to his friends, a centuries-old ghost who is thrilled to oversee your induction. Richie has mapped out a fantastical trail across Edinburgh's enchanted streets to get you fully prepared for the school year.

At each stop take on charming challenges as you get a glimpse of life at Bogthistle and discover your true magical self. Every choice you make will reflect your cunning, courage, curiosity, and kindness, bringing your distinct magical affinity into focus. Sharpen your wits, trust your instincts, and prepare to discover your magic - your sorting ceremony awaits!

It's fun and interactive, and manages to throw in a good amount of educational information without ever feeling overwhelming or getting bogged down in the details. Check your email for your unique game link. Just tap the link to open the game in your browser - no downloads required. You’ll be guided through onboarding and then directed to your starting location.

Most tours take between an hour and a half and two and a half hours. The duration can vary depending on your chosen pace, and may be longer if you decide to wander, enjoy local cafes or visit other points of interest along the way.

Yes. Each ticket includes one main device holder plus the number of additional active participants shown on the ticket you choose. A 1-player ticket is for one device holder only. A 5+ ticket keeps the current flexible share-link behaviour, while 2-player, 3-player, and 4-player tickets cap how many extra participants can be active at one time.

Yes - the core game continues even if your signal drops. Once you’ve started, the trail is cached on your device so puzzles, directions, and your progress keep working.

There are just a few things to know:

Streaming media such as audio or video may need a connection to load, so it might not appear until you have signal again.
If you refresh the web page while you have no reception, your browser can’t reload the game and will show a “no connection” message. When that happens, move somewhere with signal and reload - you’ll pick up from the last point where you were online.
If your GPS struggles to get a fix, you’ll see an in-game fallback option so you can keep playing without a perfect location lock.

Yes - you can adjust text size or switch between dark and light modes in Settings at any time.

No setting changes needed - if GPS drops out, press and hold the override button to continue. The game lets you progress even without a signal.

We recommend comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Much of the experience takes place outdoors, so please ensure that you are dressed suitably for walking and for the conditions on the day.

Recommended for ages 12+. Younger players can join in with adults, and under-12s go free as part of your group.
